Art Excursion : Pearl Street

Saturday afternoon we drove up to Boulder Colorado to visit the famous and historic Pearl Street Mall. If you are looking to see a variety of art, Pearl Street is a great place to explore. There are a number of galleries located on the mall. They range from galleries with paintings, photographs and sculptures to galleries that contain hand crafted items made by local artists and craftsman. There are galleries of stones and crystals as well as shops that feature more spiritual and hippie type items.

While we didn't get a chance to visit all of them, the ones that we did visit, had a lot to offer. Whether you are looking to purchase some fine art or just browse, most everyone will find something that they like. Most of the work is from local artists. I can't wait to go again to see some of the galleries that we didn't get a chance to visit.

One of the greatest assets Pearl Street has to offer, is that you can see a lot of art live, right out on the street. Whether it is a musician playing a bass guitar, a small jazz group, a magician, or a person performing stunts on the street, there is always something interesting going on. Just look for a crowd of people standing around and you will probably see something you have never seen before.

You may even find a local artist creating a work of art right there on the street. Its not uncommon to see a painter or sketch artist doing his or her work in this creative and inspiring environment. The artist below was creating some temporary but beautiful art on a rock fountain using leaves and flowers. I have never seen anything like this before, it was a unique experience. I was even able to talk to the artist, who was a very nice man and was just enjoying creating these pictures for all who walked by.

After living in Colorado for many years, this was my first trip to Pearl Street and I must say that it was thoroughly enjoyable. It is definitely a one of a kind place to visit and I am looking forward to going there again. So, if you have a chance, don't wait so long to make this trip like I did and if you feel brave, take an instrument, a sketch pad, your painting tools or even just a camera as you may be inspired to create some street art of your own.
