All Starr Performance Art

The performing arts are something that everyone should experience in person periodically if not on a regular basis. From street performers to long time stage performers, there's nothing that compares to seeing a performance live and in person. In person, you take in the experience with most all of your senses and it hopefully creates an everlasting image in your mind.

Earlier this week I had the incredible opportunity to see Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band at the Paramount Theater in downtown Denver. The venue for this performance was perfect.  I had never been to the Denver Paramount Theater. It is a small classic theater from days gone by and gave a nostalgic feel for the event. It is also a smaller venue so it gives more of an up close and personal feel. The acoustics there were awesome and our view of the stage from the mezzanine level was great. The atmosphere was a plus and definitely added to the event but I must say the performance its' self was spectacular.

At age 75, Ringo Starr can still perform at an exceptional level. As a living legend, he still play drums and sings his own hit songs as well as some of the classic Beatles songs.

Currently,  the other members, the "All Starrs", are stars themselves from decades spanning from the 60's to the 80's and beyond.

Guitarist, Todd Rungren, has performed with numerous bands, as a solo artist, and has been a producer since the 70's. The other guitarist,  Steve Lukather, is most well known for his days with the 80's band Toto. They are both outstanding guitar players and performers. Bassist,  Richard Page, is a wonderful song writer and his voice still sounds the same as it did from his days with Mister Mister in the 80's.

Keyboard player Gregg Rolie's roots go all the way back to Woodstock,  where he played and sang with Santana. He brings some amazing sound and vocals to this group while performing some of those classic Santana hits. Warren Ham is an impeccable saxophone player, whose sound is prominent throughout the performance. Drummer,  Gregg Bissonette is really the lead drummer of this group. He does the heavy lifting,  allowing Ringo to sing and perform freely without having to constantly be on drums.

This group performs a variety of hits from the 50's all the way to a current song that Richard Page just recently wrote. Sitting through this performance you get to experience  Beatles' mania, the classic sound of Santana that makes you think of Woodstock,  the expansion of rock music in the 70's, the guitar heavy 80's and more. This was a great performance and was much more than I expected.

Watching these guys perform,  you can really see how much they enjoy playing and performing. They appear to just be on stage having fun. My overall take from this performance was that it really makes a difference when an artist enjoys and has fun at what he or she does. The next time you go to some type of performance,  try to take notice of the performers attitudes on stage. Are they having fun? Do they enjoy what they do? In performing arts it really does seem to make a difference in the quality of a show.
